Another nice day and a decent run down to Villa on Saturday despite the 40 and 50mph restrictions in the roadworks bit.
Was wearing my ‘Singing the Blues City T shirt and had a bite to eat in Tescos “Who’s your favourite Blues singer” the waitress said to me, missing the point a bit.
"B B King” I suppose, though I’m not a big Blues fan. “Mine’s Ray Charles” Good choice.
Chatted with Dave Woodhall of Villa zine Heroes and Villains “Deep down you can’t be happy with what’s happening at City with the Sheikh’s money” he said.
“Are you kidding, you’ve only got Birmingham we’ve got the rags so anything that gets at them is fine by me”…….
I later thought that if Randy Lerner had billions would Vila fans feel aggrieved about him pumping even MORE money in?
Good programme as usual, Villa make the most of their colours, particularly the sky blue.
Selling KK one bloke asked me about the fisticuffs in Plzen ”I wasn’t even in Plzen” “it must have been on the blog then” he said. Another bloke said “are you not allowed an opinion, Dave?” Plenty said they heard me and Tom on Blue Tuesday and enjoyed the show, so that’s alright then.
Villa Park looked really good. Like I’ve said they make the most of their colours, the sky blue more than the maroon. I wish our balcony walls at the Etihad were painted in the same way, how about it City?
I did a questionnaire for the Mag magazine before the season start and suggested that with our defence we’d have plenty of 3-2’s but I thought they’d be fors not againsts. Also I wrote on this blog a few weeks ago that I couldn’t see us winning another away game, not even at Villa. I got some stick for that but it really is about time that we started to take the Cardiff’s, Stoke’s and Villa’s et al seriously as I’m getting sick of it. Neil’s right when he says that our problems go deeper than Dzeko, no tackling in midfield, poor crossing and finishing, dosy defending. Steve Heald made good points about Nasty in KK208. All that lovely passing we did and they just boot the ball upfield for the winner (a la v the rags in the Community Shield) , and Joe’s hop, skip and a fuckin , jump was a joke. Get it sorted City
The rags losing made it even worse. They lose so we have to go and lose, pathetic. Still, at least we hadn't got a parking ticket when we got back to the car!
Much concern to City fans is the possibility of the CSKA game being moved to St Petersburg, so let's hope the club doesright by the fans on this one.
Anyway a chance to redeem with the game tomorrow night. Here’s the It’s A Fix extract from KK 208 :
6A) WEDNESDAY 2ND OCTOBER CHAMPS LG MATCHDAY 2 : BAYERN MUNICH (HOME) KO 7.45PM
FCB, The Bavarians, The
Reds, or FC Hollywood are also a sports club, and the most successful
football team in Germany.
The club was founded by members of a gymnastics club and eleven footballers in 1900. They played in the regional leagues but the advent of Nazism put an abrupt end to their development. The president and the coach, were both Jewish and left the country. Many others in the club were also purged, and Bayern were taunted as the “Jew’s club”.
Post war they struggled and were saved from bankruptcy at the end of the 50’s by manufacturer Roland Endler when it was OK to have a rich benefactor.
In 1963 the Bundesliga was formed and Bayern were
promoted two years later with the likes of Beckenbauer, Muller and Maier, and success continued throughout the decades to the present.
They moved to the Allianz Arena, located on the northern outskirts of the city in 2005, and the ground is shared with Munich 1860.
Bayern Munich is run by a joint stock company but has many sponsors including Adidas and Audi who respectively paid approximately £150M towards the Allianz Arena, not yet investigated by
FFP of course!
Prior to the recent games the teams met just the once previously, in a friendly in Munich in 1953/54 which resulted in a 3-3 draw.
Ged: The teams first met competitively in the group stage of the Champions League in September 2011
We lost 2-0 in the Allianz Arena, on a night most remembered for the Tevez incident. We should have had a couple of penalties early on but getting a penalty at Bayern is as rare as getting one against the rags or at Anfield, and the home side nicked a couple just before the break. Gomez (38, 45) 66,000 (2905 Blues)
We beat a weakened Bayern team 2-0 in the return with goals from Silva ((36) and Yaya (52) 47,201 (2786 Munichs), and lost 2-1 to them in a pre-season friendly a couple of months ago.
In the Bundesliga after 7 games they’re second to Dortmund level with 19 points from 6 wins and a draw.
Comment : They brought a big and noisy support to the Etihad on their last visit who were put in the top tier of the East Stand experimentally after consultation with City fans. It didn’t work and the bouncing caused us grave concern below! Jan Lehmann (dodgy ex Arsenal keeper) took the piss out of our support so we need to show him what for tonight.
It’s another big test against the 5 times and current Champs of Europe and a win or draw even, maybe would be great for us.
