Tuesday - united involved in 5 goal thriller
I was on Dublin radio on Saturday with Andy Mitten of the united zine UWS. I predicted a draw and Andy said he’d take a draw “right now”.
Lovely sunny day, so good to see Blues going to the ground bedecked in the gorgeous sky blue. Fairly quiet on my pitch, none of the usual to-ing and fro-ing from the red scum, just one or two rags wandering about which is more than we can do at their place . “That’s because we’re on a higher plain” Ged advised “and we don’t give them the stick we’d get at the swamp if we wore our colours”.
Heard that RVP was out for them and changed my prediction to 5-0. Maybe a little tongue in cheek!
What a performance from the boys, so pleased for unsung heroes like Kolarov and Nasri. Vinny immense as was the rest of the lads, the whole team. What about those rags fans? Very quiet until we went 4-0 up, and they pretended they weren’t bothered by chanting some crap about 20 titles. Rooney, thought his wig had come off and why did it take 5 fouls before he was booked?
Saw John Henshaw at half time and we agreed we wouldn’t cock it up this time, but we should have had more. Happy at 4-1 though really.
Olly Holt in the manumirror quoted Moyes as saying “ he had never suffered this kind of defeat at City when he came here with Everton”. So the legendary manu selective memory kicks in, as he forgets the 5-1 in ‘93/94. I’ve e-mailed Olly to remind him!
Tonight I’m going on Blue Tuesday with Tom Parish, who took some persuading, (Micky, give me your number and I’ll pass it on next time) so we won’t get to our pitches until just after 7. See you there!
It’s Wigan, of course, and here’s the It’s A Fix extract from KK208 :
5A) TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 24TH : CAPITAL ONE CUP RD 3 : WIGAN (HOME)
Hopefully we’ll be buoyant after Sunday (we are!) and OOOH it’s also a chance of revenge for the Cup final debacle, but no doubt their half a dozen fans will try and take the piss.
This season so far they’re in 11th place in The Championship with 11 points and 1 win 0 draws and 2 losses away from home.
In the Europa Cup they’ve drawn 0-0 at Zulte Waregem wherever that is!
They’ve appointed Owen (he can talk the talk but can he walk the walk?) Coyle as replacement for Martinez who’s taken Kone, Alcaraz and James McCarthy with him to Everton. They’ve acquired Nick Powell from the rags and Ryan Shotton, Grant Holt plus a host of other signings to add to Callum MacManaman, Watson (spit) Gomez, Boyce etc.
Previous form, in the League Cup two meetings :
1982/83 2nd round 1st leg : 1-1 away 12,194; 2nd leg : 2-0 home 16,083
2002/03 :3rd rd 0-1 away 15,007
Comment : We need to take the Capital One Cup seriously this season starting with tonight’s game. Surely, even with some fringe players included, we will be good enough to beat a much changed and probably depleted Wigan team from the Cup Final, and at least they won’t have McCarthy to run us ragged.
Good news is that down in Wales mother and daughter are doing well and the Kindle version of KK208 should be up and running in the next couple of days.
