Tomorrow it’s Stoke, here’s the it’s A Fix extract from KK 208 :
4) SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 14TH : STOKE (AWAY)
Now in their 6th Prem season. Last and only trophy the League Cup in 1972, 89th league meeting. Recent connection : Glen Whelan, mark Hughes, Stevie ireland
Some celeb fans : Nick Hancock, Aha, Dominic Cork, Julian Clary, Frank Bough, Slash, Jeremy Paul
Last season : In the FA Cup they’ve went out to us, 1-0 in the 4th round. Zab grabbed the goal in the 85th minute, on a snowbound day. Crowd was 19, 814 with 4,414 Blues.
In the Prem at The Etihad it was that 3-0 win in January, Zabaleta (43) Dzeko (56) Aguero (P) the scorers. Crowd was 47,192 with 1141 Stokies.
This season so far : They’re in 5th place with 6 points from 3 games and 1 win 0 draws and 0 losses at home They’ve lost unluckily at Liverpool 1-0, beaten Palace at home 2-1, and won at Wham 1-0:
In the Capital One Cup they’ve beaten Walsall 3-1 at home and face Tranmere away in the 3rd round.
In the transfer market Pieters, Arnautovic and Stevie Ireland have come in to add to the usual squad of Huth, Shawcross, Crouch,Jones etc. whilst the big name departures were Owen, Delap, Carlo Nash, Upson, Whitehead, Pennant (is he in or out?) Jerome and Shotton.
Mancini/Platt supposed goalie target Begovic will be an interesting one to watch.
Commendably they’re paying for their fans transport to away games
Our form at Stoke : At The Britannia last September it was the usual 1-1 draw, 4th in a row! Crouch put them one up with a handball goal (15) though our defending was poor. Garcia equalised (35) but we just couldn’t clinch it. Crowd was 27,101 with 2873 Blues)
For City it’s : DDDDLWWLLW
Groundwise : We get half of the stand behind the goal again. There’s an enclosed area for us outside the turnstiles with a burger van for our delectation.
Britannia Stadium : Capacity : 28,218 (2,800 for City)
Tickets are : £40
Comment : It was a different Stoke last season, particularly in the Cup game. The ecstasy over the high ball had faded, the partisan crowd had lost their energy and Tony Pulis paid the price. Mark Hughes was the surprising replacement, now at his 3rd club since leaving us (Fulham, QPR) . Looks like they’re made for each other. Whilst he did OK against us at Blackburn, he’s not yet won one with his latest clubs.
They must be a bit pissed off that Wigan did what they couldn’t do in the Cup Final a couple of years ago, but must fancy their chances today. Big test for us.
WWTWTWShite: Averaged 8, 288 in 85/86 and last season it was 26,914.
Pubs/parking : Plenty round and about, but eating and drinking places are away from the ground.
Away day zine : The Oatcake, is a long standing zine which comes out for every home game. If you can get your hands on a real Oatcake you should enjoy!
Note to Micky : I;m intrigued at your observations, though there is no place on the KK blog for personal, and inaccurate insults. Reference to Dzeko is a bit of banter between Neil and I, nothing to do with you. Look forward to seeing you at Stoke ( if you don't do aways you can't gauge the feelings of City fans) or at the derby or we could go for a pint. it will be interesting to put a face to the name then you can spout your venom to my face .
