Saturday

Saturday
Had a pleasant evening on Thursday watching the Youth team ease past Burnley 2-0. Not a mention anywhere in the manumirror.
Yesterday we picked up KK204  and dropped some off at the outlets, and are now in the throes of getting all the subscriptions done. Should be in the post by Sunday night. Kindle version also.
Just watched QPR draw with Spurs who had Adebayor playing for them before jetting off to the African Nations Cup, which baffles me as our boys had to go last week?
Anyway, Arsenal tomorrow, and much being made about us returning 900 tickets due to the high price. I’m giving it a miss and I’d like to say I’m doing the same but in reality my ticket would’ve been about £25, problem is transport. It’s a shame because we’ve obviously got a new issue out!
united face their biggest rivals Liverpool tomorrow (if you believe that!) their 12th man is Howard Webb!
Anyway here’s the It’s a Fix extract from KK203 :

22) SUNDAY JANUARY 13TH :  ARSENAL (AWAY) KO 4PM
Ever present in the top division since 1919 when they cheated their way up from division 2 finishing 5th.
Last pot FA Cup 2005, 8 seasons ago, Recent connection Samir Nasri, 170 th league meeting

This season so far they’re in 5th place with 34 points from 20 games with 5 wins 2 draws and 2 losses at home

At The Etihad in September it was a 1-1 draw with goals from Lescott (40) andKoscielny (82) got the equaliser. Crowd was 47,318 with 2,847 Gooners.
We also beat them 2-0 in a pre season friendly

In the Capital One Cup, after beating Coventry 6-1 at home in the 3rd, Reading away in the 4th 7-5 aet and looking odds on to win it they astoundingly went out at Bradford in the 5th round 1-1 aet and 3-2 on penalties.

In the Chimps League they played Olympiacos 3-1 H, 1-2 A; Schalke 0-2 H, 2-2 A; Montpelier 2-0 H, 1-2 A, and they face Bayern Munich in the knock out stage.

In the FA Cup they’ve drawn 2-2 at Swansea in the 3rd rd and if they win the replay face Brighton away in the 4th rd.

Our form at Arsenal :  Last season it was that devastating 1-0 loss, Arteta scoring the 87th minute goal Mario being sent off which put us 8 points behind the rags and seemingly out of the title race. However, we went on to fight to the end to take the title on goal difference.
Crowd was 60,096 with 2948 Blues.
Prior to that it was two 0-0 draws. So we haven’t scored for * games, and, apart from last season’s League Cup win, haven’t won there since 1970 bloody 5.
For City it’s : LDDLLLLDLLLLLDL

Groundwise: Football grounds in London are ridiculous and they recently had a game postponed because of a tube strike, I kid you not. Same place in the corner for us with tickets priced ludicrously at £62 so 900 Blues have turned their nose up. Bit different to when over 5000 of us paid £10 for the League Cup game last year. They have a banner stating : “You can’t buy class” but berate Arsene (who has as much trouble with zips as I do!) for not buying….class, though what signings Walcott and Oxley-Chamberlain etc  make of it we don’t know! Disappointing that they’ve come down to the level of the rags.

The Emirates Capacity: 60,355 (2,00 for City)

Comment: Topsy turvy season for the Arse again. They’ve signed up all their young players with ‘on fire’ Walcott to surely follow. Recently they’ve been banging in the goals, but conceding a few and have risen up the table. If we really want to retain our title this is the type  of game we need to win.

WTWTWShite: averaged 23,824 in 1985 and this season it’s 60,095
Pubs/parking: Usual pub is the Drayton Arms. Parking is crap as they shouldn’t have built the new ground in London
Away day zine: The Gooner, very professional and swap with KK.
Sat Nav: N5 1BU

  1. Great result, but boy did we make hard work of it in the second half. Why was Edin taking the penalty when Tevez was there? First half everybody played well and the game was a stroll. Second half we switched off culminating in Kompany's sending off. If we'd been pressing and using the man advantage as in the first half, maybe the situation wouldn't have arisen. Just as well Lescott wasn't allowed to go, especially with his late goaline clearance which could have led to a very awkward last 5 mins if Walcott had scored.
Still, a win at Arsenal cannot be sniffed at and a very healthy gap to the 5th placed team of 11 points. Rags at Spuds next week and us against Fulham should see the gap closed a little, if only van Pussy could pick up an injury as well.

  2. Probably the most important result since the Arab takeover and even more significant that the 6-1 of last year. A game we simply HAD to win following united's win over Liverpool, but more importantly, I have never seen a City side dominate a game at Arsenal so convincingly. But why was Dzeko allowed to take the kick? We weren't 3-0 up and he was on a hat trick. Mancini really should have taken control and told Tevez to take it. We simply MUST appeal against the Kompany sending off, because if that tackle is adjudged to be a foul and a sending off offence, then defending will become non existant. I don't think I've ever been prouder to be a Blue.

  3. Somebody needs to have a word with Kompany. Yesterday was a bit harsh, but he got away with similar challenges at Norwich and Sunderland and the media were quick to pounce.
I also think the Tevez situation is going to run and run because he can leave for nothing in eighteen months. Either sell him in the summer or sit him down and discuss his options. No more Mancini answering hypothetical questions and then being misquoted.

  4. Interesting that you feel this was a bigger result than the 6-1, Tony. Is that because we HAD to win and we had to win at a place where we last did it when I was 6 months old? I guess it feels a bit like April 2008 to finally break an away ground hoodoo after all this time. Not that the Carling / Rumbelows / whatever Cup counts but we did beat the Arse convincingly then so I felt the spell was already broken somewhat.

  5. I felt that it was a bigger result simply because we HAD to win at a bnground we haven't won at since William Pitt the Younger was PM. We had also won at O/T more recently although only the once, I'll admit.
